The footy is directed by the homie Nelson Melgar out of the El Super Collective in L.A. Sick blends of colors and lights on this one. Many more for future projects with Nelson are gonna go down.

After the fall of communism in 1992, a Russian guy named Tweery Peery and his homies started to press their own skateboard decks in an abandoned building. Stealing electricity and whatever else to make it happen for him and his community, this story is one of legends.

NOBODY GOT THIS

First heard this song when I was 12 on Transworld's "Videoradio" (still got that on VHS!) The beat dropped right before John Rattray put down that massive backside kickflip. Look it up cause it's a classic.

Anyways, Nobody is a dude who has been killing it for a long time. Big ups to the guy for finding this sample by Los Angeles Negros for his song "Land Loop." Pretty hard stuff to find, so don't sleep!

Walked in the record store yesterday, flipped through some hip hop...and suddenly I was on some Friday "Dammmmmmmmmn" tip when I found the above jem.

Rare Quasimoto release on 1 side. Never-before-heard Bahamadia on the other (the b-side is real funky too!)

ILL DJ PREMIER SAMPLE

Like a lot of dudes, one of the ways I got into soul music, motown, gospel, and stuff like that was by searching for samples from old hip hop songs in skateboard videos.

When I found this record by Nancy Wilson called Easy a while back, I knew DJ Premier (of Gang Starr) had sampled the track "Walk Away" for the legendary cut "Tha Squeeze" off the Training Day movie soundtrack.



The only other thing I can say about this song is that I listened to it 10 times before I heard the sample. It's real trip and it makes you appreciate the art of sampling. 2011 hip hop cats need to step up their creativity!
